Eighth Grade is a year in which students hone the skills they will need in High School. In geography, they will learn the locations and capitals of all the countries of the world, as well as all the states. In science, they will have an opportunity to do labs and dissections as well as research papers.
Reading and language arts will also be stressed as they will improve their vocabulary as well as comprehension and writing skills. Some students will study alegebra. Technology and art are melded as photography is taught as the eighth grade art class. Physical education stresses fitness as well as skill and teamwork. Music classes provide more advanced opportunities in both singing and playing instuments. In Spanish, students increase their vocabulary and well as writing skills. Students also do cross-curricular projects such as preparing a Career Day display board.
Every two years, the seventh and eighth graders take a class trip to Washington DC to learn about our government. In those years, students write a Washington report, which teaches them research skills and writing skills while they learn about the places they will visit and the history of the city.
