Deal School Navigators Statement of Criteria
“Gifted and talented students” means students who possess or demonstrate high levels of ability in one or more content areas when compared to their chronological peers in the local school district and require modification of their educational program if they are to achieve in accordance with their capabilities. (N.J.A.C. 6A:8-3.1)
Navigators Enrichment Program Mission Statement: Through empowered learning and global collaboration and communication, students will develop innovative, critical, and creative thinking skills. The goals of the program will be supported by a technology-enriched, inquiry-based curriculum that generates excitement and intellectual rigor for students as they explore their gifts and talents. Throughout the program, students are given the opportunity to explore robotics, digital communication, computer graphics, alternative and solar energies, sustainability, place-based social issues, and a variety of maker’s STEaM activities.
The Deal School District provides a comprehensive, differentiated approach for students from kindergarten through grade eight who meet the criteria for the Gifted and Talented Program. The program provides for the academically and intellectually gifted. Four major goals provide the underlying structure for the entire program: innovation, critical and creative thinking, global collaboration, and communication through empowered learning. These goals are supported by technology-enriched, inquiry-based curricula that generate excitement and intellectual rigor for the students.
Recommendations may be considered at any time throughout the year and students may be invited to join the program at the beginning of any marking period. Incoming 2nd graders and new students to the Deal School will be assessed and admitted or declined by October 1st or by the end of the current marking period of their enrollment.
